Your right to compensation under EU 261/2004
EU 261/2004 is the protective shield for passengers caught up in an airline’s mess. If your flight from the EU was delayed, cancelled, or you faced denied boarding, you’re entitled to up to €600 in compensation.
Air Europa compensation for a delayed flight
If you flew with Air Europa and your flight was delayed by 3 hours or more, you may be entitled to compensation. The condition: the delay can’t be down to extraordinary circumstances like bad weather or a strike. If everything lines up, you can claim directly with Air Europa or hand it to Refundio.
Air Europa compensation for a cancelled flight
A cancelled flight is genuinely frustrating. If your flight was cancelled less than 14 days before departure and you weren’t offered a solution that works for you, you’re entitled to compensation.
How much compensation am I entitled to?
| Flight distance | Compensation per passenger |
|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km (e.g. Madrid – Amsterdam) | €250 |
| 1,500–3,500 km | €400 |
| Over 3,500 km (e.g. Madrid – New York) | €600 |
These amounts are set by EU rules and are meant to reflect the level of disruption passengers go through.
When you’re entitled to compensation
You’re entitled when the flight wasn’t delayed or cancelled because of extraordinary circumstances. Situations where you’re not entitled:
- Extreme weather that makes flying impossible.
- Unforeseeable safety risks.
- Strikes that hit flight operations from outside the airline.
