Your right to compensation under EU 261/2004
Regulation EU 261/2004 is a shield for passengers. If your flight is delayed, cancelled, or you face denied boarding, you can be entitled to financial compensation. The rule covers all flights departing from the EU and flights into the EU on a European carrier. If your flight goes wrong, you can get up to €600.
Canaryfly compensation for a delayed flight
If your flight is delayed by more than three hours, you can be entitled to compensation. The delay must not be caused by extraordinary circumstances like bad weather or strikes outside the airline’s control.
Canaryfly compensation for a cancelled flight
If Canaryfly cancels your flight and doesn’t tell you at least 14 days in advance, you can be entitled to compensation. As with delays, the cancellation must not be caused by extraordinary circumstances.
How much compensation am I entitled to?
| Flight distance | Compensation per passenger |
|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km | €250 |
| 1,500–3,500 km (e.g. Madrid – Tenerife) | €400 |
| Over 3,500 km | €600 |
When you’re entitled and when you’re not
You’re entitled when the flight isn’t cancelled or delayed because of extraordinary circumstances. If you were denied boarding or missed a connection because of the airline’s mistake, you’re also entitled. You won’t be paid if:
- You didn’t make it to the gate on time.
- You didn’t have the right travel documents.
- The flight was cancelled because of an airport-staff strike or a natural disaster.
