Your right to compensation under EU 261/2004
Regulation EU 261/2004 is the cornerstone protecting passengers when a flight is delayed, cancelled, or overbooked. If you fly with an EU carrier or into the EU, and your flight is delayed, cancelled, or you can’t board because of overbooking, you can be entitled to up to €600 per passenger.
European Aircharter compensation for a delayed flight
If you flew with European Aircharter and your flight is delayed, it pays to know your next move. The delay has to be more than three hours and caused by the airline — not extraordinary circumstances like bad weather or strikes. In that case, you’re entitled to compensation: claim it directly with the airline or hand it to us.
European Aircharter compensation for a cancelled flight
If your European Aircharter flight is cancelled and you weren’t told at least 14 days before departure, you’re entitled to compensation. The amount depends on the flight distance and can reach up to €600 per passenger.
How much compensation am I entitled to?
| Flight distance | Compensation per passenger |
|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km (e.g. Hamburg – London) | €250 |
| 1,500–3,500 km (e.g. Hamburg – Madrid) | €400 |
| Over 3,500 km (e.g. Hamburg – New York) | €600 |
When you’re not entitled
You’re not entitled when:
- You were told about the cancellation more than 14 days before departure.
- The delay or cancellation was caused by extraordinary circumstances the airline couldn’t control.
- You voluntarily gave up your seat during an overbooking.
