Flew with HelloJets and your flight was delayed or cancelled? Here’s what you’re entitled to when a HelloJets flight goes wrong, how to claim the money, and how much you can ask for.

HelloJets is a relatively new airline that runs mostly charter flights. The carrier is based in Romania, and recently started operating flights in the Czech Republic and Slovakia for the tour operator Blue Style. EU Regulation 261/2004 protects passengers against delays, cancellations and other flight disruptions — and since HelloJets is based in Romania (an EU country), the rules cover all its flights.


HelloJets compensation for a delayed flight — when are you entitled?

You’re entitled to compensation for a HelloJets delay when the flight arrives at the final destination more than 3 hours after the scheduled time. If it does, you’re entitled to up to €600 per passenger.

What matters for the delay calculation is when the plane landed at the final destination compared to the scheduled arrival time. A delay at departure isn’t relevant for compensation purposes.

For a HelloJets delay claim to stand, the flight has to meet these conditions:

The most common extraordinary circumstance is bad weather. But every extraordinary-circumstance claim has to be looked at on its own — airlines love to blame “extraordinary circumstances”, and they’re not always telling the truth.


HelloJets delayed flight — how much compensation?

If your flight was delayed by more than 3 hours, you’re entitled to up to €600 per passenger. The amount depends on the flight distance:

Heads up — two exceptions:

  1. For flights within the EU, the maximum compensation is €400, even when the flight is longer than 3,500 km (e.g. Prague – Tenerife).
  2. A flight longer than 3,500 km has to be delayed by more than 4 hours for the full €600 to apply. If the delay is only 3–4 hours, the compensation is cut by 50 % — to €300.

HelloJets compensation for a cancelled flight — when are you entitled?

If your HelloJets flight was cancelled less than 14 days before the departure date, you’re protected by EU rules. In that case you’re entitled to a replacement flight or a refund of the ticket price. Plus financial compensation of up to €600 per passenger.

Important: You’re always entitled to the replacement flight (or a refund) — even when the cancellation was caused by an extraordinary circumstance like bad weather. You’re entitled to financial compensation only when the cancellation wasn’t caused by an extraordinary circumstance. Accepting a replacement flight doesn’t waive your right to financial compensation.

What else are you entitled to when a HelloJets flight is delayed or cancelled?

Financial compensation isn’t the only thing on the table. While you wait, HelloJets has to give you refreshments — usually through a voucher. If the airline didn’t, hold on to every receipt from the airport — the airline has to refund those costs.

If you’re waiting for the delayed flight overnight, you’re also entitled to accommodation. If HelloJets doesn’t sort it, you can book your own and the airline has to pay you back. Same goes for transport between the airport and the hotel.


How to claim HelloJets compensation for a delayed or cancelled flight

You can handle the claim yourself or hand it to us. If you go it alone, you’ll contact the airline directly. Because HelloJets is a new carrier, the response time can be much longer than usual. In most cases the claim is rejected — typically by blaming “extraordinary circumstances”.

Common questions

HelloJets rejected my claim — what now? Contact us. Airlines reject more than 50 % of cases where the entitlement is genuinely there. We’ll review your flight for free and go after the compensation for you.

HelloJets offered me a voucher for future flights — do I have to accept? No. You always have the right to be paid in cash. If the airline goes quiet after offering you a voucher and refuses to pay, get in touch.

Am I entitled to compensation on HelloJets charter flights too? Yes. Whether it’s a scheduled or charter flight makes no difference under the EU rules.

Are children entitled to compensation? Yes. Every passenger is entitled. The only exception is children under two without their own seat.

Can I claim compensation for a delay if I didn’t take the flight? Unfortunately no. Compensation for a HelloJets delay is only payable to passengers who actually flew.

HelloJets cancelled my flight. I got a replacement. Am I entitled to anything else? Yes. The replacement flight is always on the table. On top of that, if the conditions are met, you’re also entitled to financial compensation of up to €600 per passenger.
