Your right to compensation under EU 261/2004
Regulation EU 261/2004 protects passengers when air travel goes wrong. If your flight is delayed, cancelled or you face denied boarding, you may be entitled to compensation. The rules cover every flight departing from the EU, plus flights into the EU on an EU-based carrier — so if you’re flying with ITA Airways, an Italian carrier, you’re covered.
ITA Airways compensation for a delayed flight
If you flew with ITA Airways and your flight ran more than three hours late, you may be entitled to compensation. The delay has to be the airline’s fault, not extraordinary circumstances like bad weather or strikes. Fill in the short form on our site and we take it from there.
ITA Airways compensation for a cancelled flight
If they tell you about the cancellation less than 14 days before departure and don’t offer a workable alternative, you’re entitled to compensation. Note that the entitlement falls away if the flight was cancelled because of extraordinary circumstances.
How much compensation am I entitled to?
| Flight distance | Compensation per passenger |
|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km (e.g. London – Rome) | €250 |
| 1,500–3,500 km (e.g. Milan – Berlin) | €400 |
| Over 3,500 km (e.g. London – New York) | €600 |
The amounts are fixed by EU 261/2004 and don’t depend on what you paid for the ticket.
When you’re entitled and when you’re not
You’re not entitled when:
- You were told about the cancellation more than 14 days before departure.
- The delay or cancellation was caused by extraordinary circumstances.
- You missed a connecting flight because of your own mistake.
How to claim compensation from ITA Airways
You have two options. Contact ITA Airways directly and run the process yourself. Or — much simpler — check your claim with Refundio. Fill in our form and we handle every step, all communication with the airline included.
What if ITA Airways rejects the claim?
If ITA Airways turns you down, don’t give up. Hand us the flight details and we take it from there. Our team has fought plenty of these cases and knows how to get the compensation you’re owed.
