Your right to compensation under EU 261/2004
Regulation EU 261/2004 is the cornerstone of passenger rights in air travel. If your flight is delayed by more than 3 hours, cancelled, or you face denied boarding, you may be entitled to up to €600. The rules cover every flight departing from the EU, plus flights into the EU on European carriers — Jet2 Airlines included.
Jet2 Airlines compensation for a delayed flight
If you flew with Jet2 Airlines and your flight ran 3 hours late or more, you’re entitled to compensation. Keep every document tied to the flight — boarding passes, delay emails. If the delay made you miss a connecting flight, you may be entitled to more.
A delay can be caused by technical issues or other things the airline controls. In those cases the entitlement stands. If it was caused by extraordinary circumstances like bad weather or strikes, the entitlement may not apply.
Jet2 Airlines compensation for a cancelled flight
If Jet2 Airlines cancels your flight and tells you less than 14 days before departure, you’re entitled to compensation. Keep every message from the airline about the cancellation. If they didn’t offer a workable alternative flight, the full amount is owed.

When you’re entitled and when you’re not
You’re not entitled when:
- The delay or cancellation was caused by extraordinary circumstances (natural disasters, terrorist attacks, severe weather).
- You were told about the cancellation more than 14 days ahead.
- You voluntarily gave up your seat in exchange for benefits.
