Your right to compensation under EU 261/2004
Regulation EU 261/2004 protects passengers when things go wrong in the air. If your flight out of the EU is delayed, cancelled, or you face denied boarding, you can claim up to €600. The rules cover every airline, SAS included, and bring with them a right to care — refreshments, communication, and a hotel if it comes to that.
SAS Airlines compensation for a delayed flight
If you flew with SAS Airlines and your flight was more than three hours late, you can be entitled to compensation. Keep all the paperwork — boarding passes and the booking confirmation. If the delay caused you to miss a connecting flight, you’re covered there too.
SAS Airlines compensation for a cancelled flight
If your flight was cancelled less than 14 days before departure, you’re entitled to compensation. If a rerouting with a similar schedule was offered, the entitlement may not stand. If the rerouting doesn’t work, or you weren’t told in time, full compensation applies.

When you’re entitled and when you’re not
You’re not entitled to compensation when:
- The delay or cancellation was caused by extraordinary circumstances (bad weather, strikes).
- The airline told you about the cancellation more than 14 days before departure.
- The airline can prove the delay or cancellation was caused by something outside its control.
- You caused the disruption yourself, or you arrived at the airport late.
