Your right to compensation under EU 261/2004
Regulation EU 261/2004 is a shield for passengers when things go wrong in the air. If your flight out of the EU or on a European carrier is delayed, cancelled, or you face denied boarding, you’re entitled to compensation. The rules cover every flight departing from an EU airport and every flight into the EU operated by a European carrier.
Swiss Air compensation for a delayed flight
If you flew with Swiss Air and your flight was more than three hours late, you can be entitled to compensation. The delay is measured at arrival, not at take-off. You can claim directly with Swiss Air or check your claim with Refundio — if we don’t win, you pay not a cent.
Swiss Air compensation for a cancelled flight
If your Swiss Air flight was cancelled less than 14 days before departure, you can be entitled to compensation. Hang on to all the paperwork and flight info. If no alternative travel was offered, or you weren’t told in time, you have a right to claim.
How much compensation am I entitled to?
| Flight distance | Compensation per passenger |
|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km (e.g. London – Paris) | €250 |
| 1,500–3,500 km (e.g. London – Madrid) | €400 |
| Over 3,500 km (e.g. London – New York) | €600 |
When you’re entitled and when you’re not
You’re not entitled to compensation when:
- The flight was cancelled because of extraordinary circumstances (extreme weather, strikes outside the airline’s control).
- You were told about the cancellation more than 14 days before departure.
- You arrived at your destination less than three hours late.
