Your right to compensation under EU 261/2004
Regulation EU 261/2004 is the cornerstone of passenger rights in air travel. If your flight is delayed by more than three hours, cancelled without notice, or you face denied boarding, you have a right to compensation. The entitlement only stands when the cancellation or delay is the airline’s fault and you had a confirmed booking.
Transavia compensation for a delayed flight
If you fly Transavia and your flight is more than three hours late, you can be entitled to compensation. Worth checking whether the delay was caused by something outside the airline’s control. If Transavia offers a rerouting that gets you to your destination with a small delay, the compensation can be cut by 50 %.
Transavia compensation for a cancelled flight
If Transavia cancels your flight and gives you less than 14 days’ notice, you’re entitled to compensation. The airline can also offer a rerouting or other services. If you accept a rerouting with similar times, the compensation may be adjusted.
How much compensation am I entitled to?
| Flight distance | Compensation per passenger |
|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km | €250 |
| 1,500–3,500 km (e.g. London – Porto) | €400 |
| Over 3,500 km (e.g. London – New York) | €600 |
The amounts are fixed by EU rules and don’t depend on the price of your ticket.
When you’re entitled and when you’re not
You’re not entitled to compensation when:
- The delay was caused by extraordinary circumstances (natural disasters, security threats).
- You were told about the cancellation more than 14 days before departure.
- You were offered a rerouting with similar departure and arrival times.
