Your right to compensation under EU 261/2004

EU 261/2004 protects passengers when air travel goes wrong. If you face a delayed flight, a cancelled flight, or denied boarding, you may be entitled to financial compensation of up to €600. The rules cover all flights departing from the EU, and flights into the EU operated by an EU-registered airline. Not every situation qualifies — if the airline proves extraordinary circumstances outside its control, compensation doesn’t apply.


Volotea compensation for a delayed flight

If you flew with Volotea and your flight was delayed by more than three hours, you may be entitled to compensation. Worth checking whether the delay was actually caused by extraordinary circumstances. You’re also entitled to information about the delay, and to care in the form of refreshments and accommodation if needed.


Volotea compensation for a cancelled flight

If Volotea cancels your flight and tells you less than 14 days before departure, you’re entitled to compensation. If a rerouting was offered but you arrived at your destination with a large delay, you may still be entitled. You also get to choose between financial compensation and another form of remedy.

If you were offered a rerouted flight with only a minimal delay, the compensation can be cut by 50 %.


When you’re not entitled to compensation

You’re not entitled when:

  1. The delay is down to extraordinary circumstances (natural disasters, strikes).
  2. You were told about the cancellation at least 14 days before departure.
  3. You missed your connecting flight through your own fault (late arrival at the airport).

How to claim compensation from Volotea

You have two options:

  1. Try it yourself through the Volotea website — this can be a slow grind.
  2. Hand it to us at Refundio — no win, no fee. If we don’t recover the compensation, you pay nothing.

What if the airline rejects the claim?
